The Bruin football team held a single practice on Sunday afternoon in full pads. Please note that Tuesday's practice start time will now be at 8:30 a.m. Continue to check the website for practice time changes / updates.
Sunday's practice featured plenty of team work with the offense going against the defense. On offense, running backs Johnathan Franklin and Damien Thigpen broke loose for long runs. Cornerback Aaron Hester had a key interception for the defense.
Coach Mora mentioned that he liked the depth at some positions and that the team would need it given the tempo the offense will play at. He indicated that there were still good competitions going on at several positions, including right offensive tackle, safety and defensive end. Freshman Ka'imi Fairbairn connected on several long field goals in the kicking period which ended the session, including one from 55 yards out. Colby Cyburt and Torian White continued to make progress along the offensive line. Malcolm Jones and Joseph Fauria returned to full practice mode.
In some NFL preseason notes --- WR Matt Willis caught three balls for 43 yards for the Broncos; Kahlil Bell ran six times for 11 yards for the Bears; Justin Medlock booted a 48-yard field goal for Carolina; Brendon Ayanbadejo had four stops and an interception for the Ravens; Taylor Embree caught two passes for the Chargers; Chris Horton made his debut with the NY Giants; Akeem Ayers and Alterraun Verner each started for the Titans.
