LOS ANGELES - UCLA introduced head football coach Jim Mora at a press conference before a standing-room only audience in the Press Room of the J.D. Morgan Center on campus Tuesday afternoon.

Mora, 50, was announced as the program's 17th head football coach on Saturday, Dec. 10.

"Our objective here is simple," Mora said. "And that is to make Bruin fans proud of their football team. It has been a tough decade for UCLA football. This is a program that has always represented academic and athletic excellence. And I look forward to the challenge of returning this football team to prominence."

Mora spoke before a crowd of media, Bruin supporters and UCLA department of athletics staff.

"This is a proud institution," Mora said. "It's an outstanding academic institution. I'd say that it's a sleeping giant in college football."

Mora arrives at UCLA after having served as a head coach in the NFL with the Seattle Seahawks (2009) and Atlanta Falcons (2004-06). From 1985-2009, Mora served as an assistant coach or head coach in the NFL for five teams.

Mora began his coaching career as a graduate assistant at the University of Washington in 1984, immediately after his four years as a defensive back for the Huskies. As a player, he appeared in two Rose Bowls.

"I've always felt that this was a program, a university, that you could build into a special place," Mora said. "A place where you can win with consistency, where you can win doing it the right way, with kids that are not only committed to being great football players and great athletes, but also great students and great leaders in our community. And so that was very, very appealing to me. This was the job that I wanted, and I was fortunate to get this job."

Executive Vice Chancellor Scott Waugh and UCLA Director of Athletics Dan Guerrero addressed the media prior to Mora's introduction.

"I know that Jim is a very disciplined individual, very motivated, and brings a lot to the table from that standpoint, something that we were really looking for in this program," Guerrero said. "I can tell you that on behalf of everyone here at UCLA, it's a delight to have Jim and his family here with us."
