By: UCLA Athletics

UCLA's 2013 men's soccer recruiting class has been ranked No. 1 in the nation by College Soccer News.

This is head coach Jorge Salcedo's fourth No. 1 recruiting class in his 10 years at the helm of the UCLA men's soccer program, and UCLA's second in the last four years. Salcedo previously brought in the top-ranked classes in 2010, 2006 and 2004. Earlier this summer, UCLA's class was ranked No. 1 by Top Drawer Soccer, making it the consensus No. 1 recruiting class in the country for 2013.

The Bruins' latest class features four players ranked in the top 25 in College Soccer News's list of Top Recruits for the 2013 season - Nathan Smith (#5), Willie Raygoza (#13), Michael Amick (#15), Kevin De La Torre (#21). Also joining the Bruins this fall will be incoming freshmen Gregory Antognoli, Michael Griswold, Brian Iloski, Felix Vobejda and Gage Zerboni. Transfers Jordan Vale (Syracuse), Aaron Simmons (SMU) and Edgar Contreras (Taft College) all will play for the Bruins this fall as well. Vale started all 21 games for the Orange as a freshman in 2012, scoring nine goals and earning freshman All-America honors from College Soccer News. Simmons played at SMU for two seasons, starting all 41 games he played in. He recorded eight points in his two years at SMU while playing on the back line. Contreras, another defender, was named a second-team NSCAA All-American at Taft in 2012.

Overall, this class has seven players who have experience playing with their respective Youth National Teams - Amick (U.S.), Antognoli (U.S.), De La Torre (U.S.), Iloski (U.S.), Raygoza (U.S.), Smith (U.S.), Vale (New Zealand) - and five players who earned NSCAA Youth All-American honors in 2012 - Amick, De La Torre, Iloski, Raygoza, Smith.

UCLA will begin the 2013 season at the adidas/IU Credit Union Classic in Bloomington, Ind., playing 11th-ranked Notre Dame on Friday, Aug. 30 in the season opener. The Bruins will then face No. 1 ranked and defending NCAA champion Indiana on Sunday, Sept. 1.
