Washington and Stanford split the other two first-place votes, with Washington edging Stanford for second with 19 points to the Cardinal’s 18. California is picked to finished fourth, San Diego State fifth and Oregon State sixth.
UCLA is looking for its ninth overall Pac-12 Conference title under the direction of head coach Jorge Salcedo. The Bruins finished the 2013 season 12-3-5 and advanced to the third round of the NCAA Men’s Soccer Division I Tournament. The Bruins return a lineup that features MAC Hermann Trophy finalist and Pac-12 Player of the Year Leo Stolz, who led the Pac-12 in goals scored last season with 11, as well as team captain Earl Edwards Jr., who started every game in goal last season and recorded seven shutouts. Also returning is U.S. Under-20 National Team defender Michael Amick, who earned All-Freshman honors a year ago.
The Bruins officially kick off the season on Friday, Aug. 29 at Wake Forest at 4:30pm PT. UCLA’s home opener is Friday, Sept. 12 vs. Santa Clara at 8pm. The team’s final exhibition contest is Saturday, Aug. 23 vs. Los Angeles All-Stars at 6pm at Drake Stadium.
