Javan Torre Named to U.S. U-20 World Cup Roster

Chicago, Ill. - UCLA freshman defender Javan Torre has been named to the 21-man roster that will represent the U.S. U-20 National Team at the 2013 FIFA U-20 World Cup in Turkey from June 21-July 13.

Torre, a native of Santa Monica, Calif., played in 12 matches for the Bruins in 2012, making five starts and helping the team earn six shutouts. Earlier this year, Torre helped lead the U.S. U-20's to a berth in the 2013 FIFA U-20 World Cup by helping the team to a runner-up finish at the 2013 CONCACAF U-20 Championship. He played in three of the U.S.'s five matches in the tournament.

Torre previously played for the U.S. U-20's at the 2012 Marbella Cup in Spain as well, playing in all three matches and recording an assist. He also participated in the 2013 Toulon Tournament in France, playing in two matches for the U.S. Additionally, Torre has seen time with the U.S. U-18 National Team, competing at the 2011 Milk Cup in Northern Ireland and helping the team to a third-place finish.

The U-20 MNT was drawn into a difficult group for the FIFA U-20 World Cup. The U.S. opens Group A play against Spain on Friday, June 21, at Ali Sami Yen Arena in Istanbul. The match will be broadcast at 1:45 p.m. ET, live on ESPN2 and WatchESPN. That is followed by a June 24 game against France in Istanbul, live on ESPN2 and WatchESPN at 10:45 a.m. ET. The U.S. closes out group play with a June 27 match against Ghana at Kadir Has Stadium in Kayseri, Turkey, at 12:45 p.m. ET, live on ESPNU and WatchESPN.
