Release:  01/21/2014

UCLA forward Victor Chavez was drafted in the fourth round of the 2014 MLS SuperDraft today by Portland Timbers. Chavez was selected with the 14th pick in the fourth round, No. 71 overall, and is the third UCLA soccer player to be drafted in this year's SuperDraft, joining Joe Sofia and Victor Munoz.

Chavez played in 79 matches in his UCLA career, earning All-Pac-12 honors in each of his four seasons, making him the first UCLA player to accomplish the feat since David Estrada did it from 2006-09. After leading the Pac-12 in goals in 2010 with 10, he followed that up with four goals and three assists in 2011 while helping UCLA to the College Cup Semifinals. This past season, Chavez finished second on the team with 23 points (8 g, 7 a). He also finished in the top-10 in the Pac-12 in points (2nd), goals (t-5th) and assists (6th).

With the selections of Munoz, Chavez and Sofia, the Bruins have now totaled 64 draft picks in the SuperDraft's 19-year history, which is 22 more than the second place school, Maryland. Chavez is also the 30th MLS selection in head coach Jorge Salcedo's tenure as head coach at UCLA. In addition, 66 Bruins have played in MLS in the league's 18 years of existence, more than any other school in the nation by far.
