Courtney, who hails from Fairfax, Va., averaged 9.925 on her three events in the season opener, capturing first place on vault and bars and second place on floor to lead UCLA, which came within .025 of top-ranked and defending national champion Florida. Courtney won vault with a career-high tying 9.975, earning a 10.0 from one of the judges after a powerful stuck Yurchenko layout full. On uneven bars, she tied her career-best with a 9.9 and helped the Bruins take a 98.600-98.375 lead at the halfway mark. On floor, her 9.9 was good for a tie for second place and nearly catapulted the Bruins to victory. Courtney was the only gymnast in the meet to score 9.9 or better on three routines, and she leads the Pac-12 with three scores of 9.9 or better. This is Courtney's first Gymnast of the Week honor and UCLA's 27th all-time.
In her collegiate debut, Cipra recorded a pair of 9.85s, tying for fifth on both vault and floor. The Mesa, Ariz. native's marks helped UCLA record meet-best team totals on those two events (49.35 for UCLA on vault, 49.375 on floor).
Utah's Georgia Dabritz earned Special Performance of the Week honors after scoring 9.95 on uneven bars.
