UCLA sophomore Danusia Francis qualified for the individual event finals on floor exercise after recording the third-best qualifying score at the World University Games in Kazan, Russia.
Francis' 13.75 mark tied that of all-around leader and 2012 Olympic floor exercise medalist Aliya Mustafina of Russia, and Francis' execution score of 8.55 was tied for the highest in the competition on that event.
With Top 20 scores of 12.9 on uneven bars (17th) and 12.8 on balance beam (20th), Francis helped Great Britain place sixth overall with a team total of 155.700. The Brits had the fourth-best beam score and the fifth-best floor score on the day. Russia claimed the team gold medal with a score of 175.500. Japan earned silver (165.000), and Germany won bronze (162.050).
Event finals for floor exercise will take place on Wednesday, July 10 at 8 am PT. Qualifying along with Francis are six Olympians, including top qualifier and 2011 World floor champion Ksenia Afanasyeva (Russia). Also qualifying to floor finals are Elsa Garcia (Mexico), Mustafina, Kim Bui (Germany), Ellie Black (Canada), Yu Minobe (Japan), Sakura Noda (Japan) and Angelina Kysla (Ukraine).
