LOS ANGELES - Senior Ting Quah was a part of four event wins, three individual and one relay, while freshman Annika Lenz won both diving events, as the Bruins defeated Oregon State, UC Santa Barbara and Florida Gulf Coast in a quad meet at Spieker Aquatics Center on Friday.
Freshman Madison White also won twice and the Bruins claimed both relays, as UCLA had the best time in nine of the 16 events.
The event began with a Bruin victory in the 200 Medley Relay, as freshmen Linnea Mack and Brigitte Winkler, Quah and senior Kathryn Murphy swam a 1:42.10, which was a meet record against OSU and UCSB. Oregon State's Sammy Harrison set a new Spieker record in the 1000 Freestyle (9:49.93), with UCLA senior Lauren Baker placing second with a time of 10:00.23.
Quah got the Bruins back on the winning track in the 200 Free with a 1:48.59, a UCLA/OSU/UCSB meet record, while junior Monica Dornick had the third-best time at 1:52.66. White then won her first race of the afternoon, the 100 Backstroke, and led the Bruins to a 1-2 freshmen finish. White went 55.50, a UCLA/OSU meet record, while Mack posted the second-best mark at 55.52. Sophomore Katie Kinnear was fourth at 56.18.
The best Bruin finisher in the 100 Breaststroke, which was won by UCSB, was Winkler, who swam a 1:05.27 to place fourth. The Gauchos also won the 200 Butterfly, as junior Noelle Tarazona finished second (1:59.91) and sophomore Arlyn Upshaw placed third (2:03.33).
The last race before the break, the 50 Free, was claimed by Florida Gulf Coast. The Bruins had the second, third and fifth-best times, as Murphy went 23.42, junior Jessica Khojasteh swam 23.80 and junior Taylor Carlson had a 24.36.
The first diving event, the 1-Meter, was dominated by the Bruins, who claimed the first five positions. Lenz (282.00) was followed by senior Haley McNamara (252.75), sophomore Montana Monahan (240.50), senior Paulina Guzman (227.80) and freshman Danni Repper (227.50).
Out of the swimming break, Quah won her second individual race in the 100 Free, swimming a 50.56 to post a UCLA/UCSB meet record. Murphy was third (51.41), while senior Anna Senko was fourth (51.90).
White won her second race of the day, the 200 Back, in a time of 2:00.78 to set a new UCLA-UCSB meet record. The Bruins also had the third and fourth-best times with Kinnear (2:01.89) and senior Jesse Bergman (2:02.08). The Gauchos won the 200 Breast, as freshman Ashley Tse (2:19.18) was third and Khojasteh was fourth (2:19.70).
The Beavers won the 500 Free, as Baker had the third-best time at 4:56.10 and sophomore Katy Campbell, who was exhibitioned, had the fourth-best mark of 4:56.26. In the 100 Fly, the Gauchos posted the best mark, with Tarazona finishing second at 56.06. Mack (56.27) and sophomore Madison Applegate (56.73) posted the third and fourth-best marks in exhibition swims.
UCLA went 1-2-3 in the second diving event, the 3-Meter, as Lenz went 290.75. Guzman finished second (258.10) and McNamara (256.45) was third.
Following the second break, Quah posted her third individual win of the afternoon with a 2:03.94 in the 200 Individual Medley. The Bruins closed out the meet with a victory in the 200 Free Relay, as Murphy, Khojasteh, Carlson and Mack recorded a UCLA/UCSB/OSU meet record with a time of 1:33.95.
The Bruins are on the road next weekend at Arizona (Nov. 8, 1 p.m.) and at Arizona State (Nov. 9, 11 a.m.).
