IRVINE - Katy Campbell finished fifth in the 800 Freestyle to highlight a group of six Bruins who swam on day one of the Phillips 66 U.S. National Championships at William Woollett Jr. Aquatics Complex on Wednesday.

Campbell's 8:30.46 was a personal best and good for fifth in the top heat of the 800 Free. The evening session began with the 200 Butterfly, as Noelle Tarazona qualified for the B Final and swam a 2:10.49. It was a personal best and put her second in the B race and 10th overall.

The night session concluded with the 400 Free Relay. The Bruin team of Katie Kinnear, Linnea Mack, Tarazona and Ally Loper finished fifth with a 3:47.81.

In the 200 Fly preliminaries in the morning, Tarazona swam a 2:12.44, the 14th-best time, to qualify for the B Final. Kinnear was 21st (2:13.10), while Kacey Milligan was 69th (2:18.37).

Mack was the lone Bruin in the 100 Free, but qualified for the evening C Final (limited to swimmers 18 and under) with a time of 56.32 (43rd fastest in the morning). She improved on that time in the evening session with a personal-best 55.87, tied for third in the C race.

Nationals continue on Thursday for four Bruins with the 200 Backstroke (Kinnear, Madison White) and the 50 Fly (Kinnear, Mack, Tarazona).
