WALNUT CREEK, Calif. – UCLA swept the Pac-12 Field Athlete of the Week awards as Alexis Walker and Julian Wruck were honored by the conference, the league office announced Tuesday.
In her first-ever heptathlon, Walker jumped into the UCLA record books by scoring 5,409 points at the Mt. SAC Relays. Walker finished second overall in a field that boasted over 50 competitors.
Her total of 5,409 points is 10th best at UCLA all-time and is tops in the Pac-12 this season. Walker is the second Bruin to earn the weekly women’s field honor after teammate Kylie Price claimed the honor on April 8.
Wruck, the NCAA and Pac-12 defending champion and collegiate record holder continues to have a stranglehold on the discus event. This past weekend at the Mt. SAC Relays, Wruck launched a mark of 211-7/64.49m to outdistance a talented field of 41 competitors.
Wruck holds the top marks in the country this season and has not lost a collegiate event since 2012. His best throw this season is 213-3/65.01m which leads the nation by five feet.
The Bruins will compete in the Triton Invitational this week. A small group will compete at the Olympic Training Center on Thursday and then most of the squad will be in La Jolla on the weekend.
