LOS ANGELES – UCLA track and field signees made headlines this past weekend in their respective Texas State Championships. The Bruins had three different signees record state titles.
Olamide Olowe won the 5A Texas State title in the 400m with a time of 54.67. She has run a season best 54.47 which ranked third in the state of Texas and 14th nationally.
Leon Powell won three events at the 3A State Championships. Powell won the 200m in a time of 21.01. He also helped lead Kennedale HS to state titles in the 4x100m and 4x200m relays. Powell has recorded a 200m best of 20.83 this season.
UCLA football signee Aaron Sharp placed second in the 200m at the 4A State Championships with a time of 20.97. That time was the sixth fastest in the nation. He also helped lead the 4x400m relay to a state title and the 4x100m relay to a fourth place finish.
The UCLA track and field team will head to the Pac-12 Championships this weekend. The meet will begin on Saturday, May 17 and be held at the Mooberry Track on the Washington State campus in Pullman, Wash.
