LOS ANGELES – The future looks bright for the UCLA track and field team. The homegrown talent alone in the state of California made a statement at the CIF State Championships. On top of the California talent, several future Bruins also made their mark at their respective state championships.

Exploding onto the scene as a senior, Curtis Godin (Mater Dei) capped off his stellar campaign with a double victory in the 100m and 200m. Godin ran a wind-aided 10.31 to win the 100m and then came back with a 20.87 in the 200m.

Misana Viltz (Millikan) won the 110m hurdles in a time of 13.47. The time is the fastest posted in California and the second fastest in the United States.

In the shot put, Dotun Ogundeji (Madison) won by over a foot with a throw of 65-5.50. In the throws on the women’s side, Stamatia Scarvelis (Dos Pueblos) won the shot put by over four feet with a throw of 52-2 and then earned the double with a throw of 163-7 in the discus to win by over five feet. She holds the No. 2 mark in both the shot and discus in the US.

In the pole vault, Greta Wagner (Los Gatos) cleared 13-0.25 to win the event. It was the second best vault in California and 17th best in the US.

Also putting together impressive performances at the state meet were Joe Herrera (Tulare Western) with a fourth place finish in the 400m (47.25) and Pattriana Perry (Vacaville) in the hurdles. Perry placed third in the 100m hurdles with a time of 13.64 and came back to place fifth in the 300m hurdles with a time of 42.18.
