LOS ANGELES – The UCLA track and field team will be sending select athletes to the Triton Invitational this weekend on the UCSD campus in La Jolla, Calif. The meet is a two-day event that will begin on Friday, April 25 and conclude on Saturday, April 26.
Friday will consist of women's throwing events, starting with the hammer throw (invitational) at 10 a.m., the discus (invitational) at 2 p.m., and concluding with the discus (open section) at 4 p.m. These events will take place at UCSD Throwing Field west of Triton Track & Field Stadium.
On Saturday, the rest of the field, jumping, and track events will take place. Throwing events again start at 10 a.m. with the men's hammer (west field), and conclude at 4 p.m. with the men's shot put invitational (stadium) and men's discus open section (west field). The track events will start at 11 a.m. with the women's 400m relay, and end at 6:25 p.m., with the completion of the men's 5000m.
On top of the weekend competition, Julian Wruck, Matthew Kosecki and Nicholas Scarvelis will participate in a meet on Thursday, April 25, at the Olympic Training Center in Chula Vista, Calif.
The Bruins are coming off an impressive weekend at the Mt. SAC Relays. Wruck and Alexis Walker were named the Pac-12 Field Athletes of the Week. UCLA checked in at No. 16 in the men’s and 13 in the women’s USTFCCCA rankings.
The men have three individuals ranked in the top-10 nationally. Wruck continues to lead Division I with a mark of 213-3 in the discus. Nick Hartle is now sixth in the 800m with a 1:47 while Cody Crampton has cleared 7-2.50 in the high jump to rank ninth. On the women’s side Kylie Price is sixth in the long jump with a mark of 21-1.25. Overall the Bruins have 26 marks in the top-40 in the west region.
UCLA will return home next week for a dual meet against rival USC. The meet is scheduled for Sunday, May 4, and will air on the Pac-12 Network (Tape Delay).
