OKLAHOMA CITY, Okla. - UCLA pitcher Courtney Rivera appeared in three games at last weekend's General Tire World Cup of Softball VIII for Team Puerto Rico, tossing 3 1/3 innings and allowing just two hits and one run.
Rivera faced four batters in each of her three outings, starting things off with a scoreless inning of relief on July 12 against Canada. After walking the first batter, she retired the next three to keep Canada off the scoreboard.
The following day, Rivera faced eventual champion Japan. Pitching the sixth inning, she gave up a triple, a single and a sacrifice fly, but limited the damage to one run.
On July 14, Rivera retired all four batters she faced against the United States squad. Keeping all four outs on the infield, she retired the last batter of the third inning on a line out and all three in the fourth on a ground out, a line out and a pop up.
