EUGENE, Ore. - Sophomore Mysha Sataraka and freshmen Jelly Felix and Gabrielle Maurice all hit home runs, but the top-ranked Bruins fell 12-4 in five innings to #3 Oregon on Saturday at Howe Field.

The Bruins fall to 33-4 overall and 8-3 in Pac-12 play, while the Ducks improve to 34-4 and 8-0 in league action.

Three of UCLA’s six hits left the yard, as Felix and junior Stephany LaRosa both had two-hit games. Senior Jessica Hall (11-2) started and allowed eight runs (seven earned), six hits and one walk in one inning. Junior Ally Carda tossed three innings of relief and gave up four runs, four hits and one walk with one strikeout.

After the Bruins left a pair on in the top of the first, the Ducks scored four times in the bottom half. Courtney Ceo led off with an infield single to short, and one out later, moved to second on a single through the left side by Janie Takeda. Alexa Peterson then laid down a bunt in front of the circle, with LaRosa catching Hall’s throw that brought her into the runner, as Peterson collided with LaRosa. With LaRosa on the ground, Ceo rounded third and slid in safely just ahead of the UCLA first baseman’s throw home to score the Ducks’ first run. After a walk to Janelle Lindvall, Kailee Cuico homered to left to extend Oregon’s lead to 4-0.

Just like in the first, UCLA stranded a pair in the second and Oregon scored four. Karine Shaver reached on an error by Sataraka at third, Nikki Udria was hit by a pitch and Ceo singled back to the circle to load the bases. Alyssa Gillespie followed with a single through the right side to plate Shaver and Udria to make it 6-0. After Gillespie stole second, Takeda doubled off the top of the wall in center to bring in Ceo and move Gillespie to third. A sacrifice fly to left by Peterson plated Gillespie with the Ducks’ eighth run.

UCLA hit a pair of solo homers in the fourth, but was robbed of another. Maurice led the inning off with her third bomb of the season to left-center to get the Bruins on the board. Sophomore Brittany Moeai followed with a deep fly ball to right, but Gillespie scaled the wall and brought the sure homer back to keep it 8-1. One out later, Felix launched one to left that was uncatchable for her second homer of the year to make it 8-2.

For the third time in the game, the Ducks put up a four spot in their half of the fourth. With one out, the Ducks loaded the bases on successive singles by Takeda, Peterson and Lindvall. Cuico followed with a grand slam to center to increase Oregon’s advantage to 12-2.

UCLA scored twice in the fifth when LaRosa drew a two-out walk and Sataraka powered her 11th homer of the year to left, but it was not enough, as the Bruins fell 12-4.

The Bruins and the Ducks conclude their three-game series on Sunday at 1 p.m. The contest will be aired live on Pac-12 Networks National and Los Angeles.
