It has been a banner August for Bruins past and future, as a pair of incoming freshmen starred at the Premier Girls Fastpitch Nationals, while a quartet of UCLA alums won the National Pro Fastpitch Championship.

In addition to the outstanding month of August, the month of September brings the 10th Annual UCLA Softball Golf Tournament. The festivities take place on Monday, Sept. 15 at SeaCliff Country Club in Huntington Beach. For more information on the golf tournament, click here.

Incoming freshman Maddy Jelenicki hit .450 (9-for-20) in seven wins for OC Batbusters to help them to the PGF Nationals Championship, adding three runs batted in, seven runs scored and a double. She had hits in all seven games and scored runs in six of them.

Selina Ta'amilo, who led So Cal Athletics to the PGF Nationals Championship a year ago, led her team to a third-place finish this year. She went 6-2 with a 2.89 earned run average and 57 strikeouts in 46 innings in the circle.

In the professional ranks, GiOnna DiSalvatore, Andrea Duran, Amanda Kamekona and Natasha Watley won the NPF title with the USSSA Pride. It was the second consecutive Cowles Cup for DiSalvatore, Duran and Watley, who were also on the team last season.

Duran was named the NPF Player of the Year and was joined on the All-NPF Team by Watley. Duran hit .362 with two home runs and 26 runs batted in, while Watley posted a .403 average with six RBI and five stolen bases.

DiSalvatore batted .257 with two homers and 21 RBI and Kamekona hit .247 with eight homers and 26 RBI. In addition to the four on the USSSA Pride, Bruin alum B.B. Bates played for the Pennsylvania Rebellion in her first year in the league. She appeared in 24 games and had eight hits in 43 at-bats (.186) with a homer and three RBI.
