HONOLULU, Hawai'i - Junior Ally Carda tossed the first no-hitter of her career and the 105th in UCLA history, as the 13th-ranked Bruins defeated Delaware 10-0 in five innings on Thursday at Rainbow Wahine Softball Stadium.

Carda struck out six in five innings, giving up just two walks. In support of Carda at the plate, the Bruins had seven hits and also benefitted from eight Delaware walks. Senior Alyssa Tiumalu and freshman Delaney Spaulding each had two hits, senior Jessica Hall recorded three runs batted in and Tiumalu and sophomore Mysha Sataraka both drove in a pair of runs.

The Bruins jumped all over the Blue Hens for five runs in the bottom of the first. Carda was hit by a pitch and moved up two bases on a pair of passed balls. One out later, junior Stephany LaRosa and Sataraka drew back-to-back walks to load the bases. Sophomore Brittany Moeai then tapped a ball to Delaware second baseman Michelle McKinnon, but her throw to first was high, allowing both Carda and LaRosa to score to make it 2-0.

With Moeai advancing to second on the error, she would score, along with Sataraka, on a Hall double just inside the chalk line over the third-base bag to increase the lead to 4-0. Tiumalu followed with a double to center to plate Hall with the Bruins' fifth run.

UCLA tacked on three more runs in the second. With one out, Spaulding singled to left and stole second. One out later, Sataraka and Moeai drew walks to load the bases for Hall, who also took a free pass to force home Spaulding to make it 6-0. Tiumalu followed with a single through the 5-6 hole to bring home Sataraka to score the Bruins' seventh run.

The Bruins brought the mercy rule into effect thanks to a three-spot in the third. With one out, freshman Gabrielle Maurice walked and moved to second when Carda reached on a fielding error by Delaware shortstop Sarah Bencivenga. After both runners moved up on a passed ball, Spaulding blooped a single into center, scoring Maurice to make it 8-0. Spaulding then stole second and LaRosa walked to load the bases. Sataraka followed with a single through the left side to plate Carda and Spaulding to increase the advantage to 10-0.

After the Bruins were held off the scoreboard in the fourth, the only thing in doubt in the top of the fifth was Carda's no-hitter. Following a ground out and a strikeout, Carda issued her second walk of the game, but she retired Kelly Lupton on a comebacker to finish off the no-no. The junior retired the side in order in the first, third and fourth innings, striking out a pair in the first and second.

UCLA is back in action twice on Friday against Hampton at 6 p.m. PT and Hawai'i at 10 p.m. PT. Both contests will feature live stats and live audio at UCLABruins.com.
