LOS ANGELES - Behind an 11-strikeout, one-hit performance in the circle by senior Jessica Hall, the second-ranked Bruins used a six-run fifth inning to run-rule Cal State Northridge by a score of 8-0 on Tuesday at Easton Stadium.

The Bruins improve to 36-4 overall, while the Matadors fall to 26-19.

Hall was on top of her game, allowing only three base runners on a first-inning hit by pitch, a second-inning single and a fifth-inning walk. She struck out the side in the fourth and two apiece in each of her other four innings, retiring the side in order in the third and fourth.

At the plate, the Bruins had 10 hits, while seven of their eight runs were scored with two outs. Junior Ally Carda, sophomore Brittany Moeai and freshman Delaney Spaulding each had a pair of hits, as seven different players picked up at least one.

The Bruins scored in their first at-bat with a two-out tally. Carda led off with a single to right-center, and one out later, junior Stephany LaRosa was hit by a pitch. One out later, freshman Gabrielle Maurice doubled to the gap in left-center to plate Carda, but LaRosa was cut down at the plate to end the inning.

UCLA added another in the second on one swing of the bat. Moeai connected on a 1-0 pitch for her first home run of the season to right field to extend the home team’s advantage to 2-0.

In the fifth, the Matadors retired the first two of the inning, but seven straight Bruins came to the plate to invoke the mercy rule for the 10th time this season. Carda was hit by a pitch and run for by junior Tara Mueller, who moved to second on a Spaulding single to right. LaRosa followed with a sharp line drive off of the glove of CSUN second baseman Tanna Bindi for an RBI single, as Mueller scored the Bruins’ third run. With freshman Robyn Corruth running for LaRosa, sophomore Mysha Sataraka drew a walk to load the bases.

Maurice then tapped a ball to Bindi at second, but she bobbled it, allowing both Spaulding and Corruth to score on the error to make it 5-0. Sataraka and Maurice each moved up on a passed ball and Moeai followed with a double to left-center to plate both of them to extend the advantage to 7-0. With junior Kaelin Sprawls running for Moeai, senior Alyssa Tiumalu came up with a pinch-hit single to left-center to drive in Sprawls with the mercy-rule run.

Next up for the Bruins is a three-game Pac-12 series with Oregon State, which starts Thursday at 7 p.m. at Easton Stadium. Free audio and live stats will be available at UCLABruins.com.
