NFCA National Freshman of the Year Finalists
LEXINGTON, Ky. - The National Fastpitch Coaches Association announced on Thursday the Top 25 finalists for the inaugural NFCA Division I National Freshman of the Year and UCLA's Delaney Spaulding was named to the list.
The trophy, which will be presented prior to the start of the Women's College World Series in Oklahoma City, was created from an idea to honor outstanding athletic achievement among freshmen softball student-athletes throughout Division I.
The 25 finalists hail from 25 different schools and 11 conferences. The Pac-12 tied for the most overall selections with six.
On May 8, the list will be trimmed down to the top 10 finalists, while the top three finalists will be released on May 22. The trophy will be awarded on May 27.
Spaulding leads the Bruins with 40 runs scored, three triples, 32 walks and 15 stolen bases, placing second with a .528 on base percentage, 39 hits and five sacrifices and third with a .368 batting average and 67 total bases. She also has seven doubles and five home runs, adding nine multiple-hit games and six multi-RBI contests.
