Softball's Ally Carda was named the UCLA/Muscle Milk Student-Athlete of the Week for Apr. 28-May 4, and Mike Woepse's lifetime-best in the pole vault at the UCLA-USC track and field dual meet earned Play of the Week status.
Carda drove in runs in all three games last week, going 4-for-8 (.500) with six runs batted in and a pair of home runs, as the second-ranked Bruins won a weekend series against Stanford. Carda had a 1.250 slugging and a .636 on base percentage for the weekend. She opened the week by reaching in four of her five plate appearances on two singles, a walk and a hit by pitch. She drove in a run with one of her singles. On Saturday, Carda staked the Bruins to a 3-0 lead in the second when she hit a three-run homer for her 10th of the season. And in the weekend finale, the Bruins were tied at two in the bottom of the sixth when Carda gave her team the lead, belting a two-run homer for her 11th of the year. Carda was also hit by a pitch and recorded a sacrifice. In each of the two Bruin victories, Carda also earned the win in the circle, as she allowed just one run and seven hits in eight innings on Saturday and Sunday.
Woepse cleared a meet record and new personal best 18-5.25 to lead a UCLA sweep in the pole vault. His points helped the UCLA men achieve a fourth-consecutive dual meet victory over USC, 89-74.
