BRUINS OPEN REGIONAL PLAY AGAINST UAB ON FRIDAY
The Bruins begin NCAA Regionals action on Friday against UAB at 2 p.m. PT/5 p.m. ET. Gametracker and free live video will be available, with links posted on the softball schedule page at UCLABruins.com. In addition, live updates will be available at twitter.com/uclasoftball.

ON DECK
The winner of the Louisville Regional will advance to next weekend's NCAA Super Regionals and will face the winner of the Gainesville Regional, consisting of #2-seed Florida, South Florida, Georgia Southern and Hampton.

BRUINS IN THE POLLS
UCLA went opposite directions in the final regular season national polls. The Bruins went from 15th to 16th in the USA Today/NFCA poll, but improved from 16th into a tie for 13th in the latest ESPN.com/USA Softball rankings. In the NFCA poll, the Bruins lost 39 points to fall one spot. In the USA Today rankings, UCLA gained 19 points to move up three positions.

BRUINS IN NCAA REGIONAL PLAY
UCLA is making its 29th appearance in the NCAA Tournament and holds a record of 177-44 (.801 winning percentage). During the Regional round, the Bruins are 78-12 (.867) and have gone undefeated 19 of 28 times. Since Regional play moved to a four-team format in 2005, the Bruins are 20-7 (.741), advancing to the Super Regionals in `05, `06, `08, `09 and `10. The Bruins are making their first-ever trip to Louisville and their first-ever visit to the Bluegrass State.

NEWS AND NOTES
Sophomore Ally Carda, who reached base in a school-record 38 straight games from Feb. 23-April 27, has now reached base in 44 of her last 45 games. Carda, who has 13 games with at least seven strikeouts, is one of two players in the nation (Laura Winter, Notre Dame) ranked in the Top 50 in wins and home runs ... freshman Brittany Moeai has been stellar behind the plate during Pac-12 play, posting a .988 fielding percentage with only two errors in 160 chances. Over her last 18 overall games, she has not committed an error in 137 chances, as well as only five passed balls ... sophomore Stephany LaRosa, who recorded her fifth career four-hit game against CSU Bakersfield on May 4 and her fifth career two-homer contest versus Loyola Marymount on May 1, has hits in 15 of her last 19 games, posting a .377 (26-for-69) average during that span with seven homers, 21 RBI and 19 runs scored. LaRosa holds the second-highest slugging percentage in UCLA history (.770) behind Stacey Nuveman (.945) and her .407 batting average is third best behind Nuveman (.466) and Natasha Watley (.450) ... freshman Mysha Sataraka has reached base in 16 straight games, posting a .277 average (13-for-47) with 12 walks, five homers, 13 RBI and eight runs scored during that span ... junior Jessica Hall tossed her second no-hitter of the season and the third for the Bruins this year (104th all-time) in game two of the doubleheader against Bakersfield (other vs. Charleston Southern on March 10). The last Bruin to throw multiple no-no's in one season was Anjelica Selden in 2005. Coupled with freshman Paige McDuffee's no-hitter against Seattle University on Feb. 16, the Bruins' three no-no's are the most since 2003 when they had four in one season ... Hall earned her third save of the year against UC Santa Barbara and the ninth of her career, which is second in UCLA history ... senior B.B. Bates has reached base in 16 straight games, posting a .412 average (21-for-51) with nine homers, 27 RBI, 14 walks and 19 runs scored. Bates, who entered the week third in the nation in RBI (72), tied for fourth in homers (24) and seventh in slugging (.893), is tied for the second-most homers in one season in UCLA history with Caitlin Benyi (24, 2004). The senior is also third in RBI for one year and tied for fifth in slugging. Bates is in the UCLA career Top 10 in five categories. She is fourth in homers (54), fifth in RBI (195), total bases (453) and slugging (.634) and seventh in runs (171) ... sophomore Gracie Goulder had an eight-game hitting streak from April 26-May 10, batting .476 (10-for-21) with two RBI and five runs ... freshman Allexis Bennett has hits in 10 of her last 11 games, batting .500 (17-for-34) with 12 runs scored, four RBI and four stolen bases ... the Bruins tied a school record on April 19 at Arizona with seven home runs ... UCLA is third in the nation in fielding percentage (.980), sixth in home runs (82) and 14th in slugging (.529).

SCOUTING THE UAB BLAZERS
UAB finished the regular season with a 37-16 record and went 19-4 in Conference USA to win the regular season title. The Blazers lost in the conference tournament semifinals, but still earned an at-large bid into the NCAA Tournament. UAB, out of Birmingham, Ala., is batting .266 as a team with 41 homers and 47 steals, averaging 3.7 runs per game. Two players are hitting over .300, led by freshman Caitlin Attfield's .367 average with 11 RBI and a team-best 23 stolen bases. Senior Whitney Fletcher is second with a .349 average to go with four homers and 32 RBI. Junior Kristen McGrath is tops on the squad with 12 homers and 39 RBI. In the circle, junior Leigh Streetman has started 18 games, while senior Lauren Webster and junior Lannah Campbell have each started 17. Webster is 12-4 with a 1.59 ERA and 156 strikeouts in 105 1/3 innings, Campbell is 12-5 with a 1.78 ERA and 156 strikeouts in 145 2/3 innings and Streetman is 12-7 with a 2.43 ERA and 120 strikeouts in 109 2/3 innings.

SCOUTING THE LOUISVILLE CARDINALS
Louisville, the #15 national seed, enters the postseason with a record of 46-11 and finished third in the Big East Conference regular season. The Cardinals finished the season with a 4-4 record, including a semifinal loss in the conference tournament. Louisville is batting .339 on the year with 62 homers and 28 steals, averaging 6.7 runs per game. Seven players are hitting over .300, led by senior Alicja Wolny and junior Katie Keller. Wolny is batting .417 with 10 homers (tied for second on the team) and 52 RBI (solo second), while Keller is hitting .412 with a squad-best 12 homers and 54 RBI. In the circle, junior Rachel Le Coq has started 29 contests and junior Caralisa Connell has started 28. Le Coq is 21-7 with a 1.88 ERA and 97 strikeouts in 171 1/3 innings, while Connell is 25-4 with a 2.20 ERA and 206 strikeouts in 193 2/3 innings.

SCOUTING THE IPFW MASTODONS
IPFW (Indiana-Purdue Fort Wayne) earned its first-ever NCAA Tournament berth by winning The Summit League conference tournament. The Mastodons (34-14) closed the season with wins in eight of nine. IPFW is batting .291 as a team with 27 homers and 77 steals, averaging 4.7 runs per game. Four players are hitting over .300, led by junior Ashleigh Bousquet's .417 average to go with a team-best nine homers and 42 RBI. Sophomore Larissa Franklin is second with a .357 average and first with 26 steals. In the circle, sophomore Miranda Kramer is 23-8 with a 1.82 ERA and 270 strikeouts in 180 2/3 innings, while junior Megan Flenniken is 10-6 with a 2.61 ERA and 130 strikeouts in 131 2/3 innings.

BRUINS VS. THE LOUISVILLE REGIONAL FIELD
Along with never having played in Louisville or the state of Kentucky, the Bruins have never faced Friday's opponent UAB, as well as IPFW. UCLA is 1-0 all-time against Louisville, as the two teams met in the 2004 NCAA Regionals at Easton Stadium, with the Bruins coming out on top 2-0.
