Giron, a Thousand Oaks native and the No. 3 seed in this year's tournament, headed into the final without dropping a set in his four previous matches. That trend continued on Monday, as Giron was a 7-5, 6-3 winner over the No. 1 seeded Thompson. With Thompson serving down 5-6 in the opening set and looking to take it to a tiebreaker, Giron broke to win the set 7-5. There was just one break in the second set as well, as Giron broke again in the eighth game with Thompson serving down 3-4. Up 5-3, Giron served it out to take the second set and the title. In addition to being the tournament's top seed, Thompson is the current No. 1 player in the ITA Singles Rankings. Giron isn't far behind, checking in at No. 11.
Giron's record on the season now stands at 10-2. He was recently awarded a wild card to compete in the singles draw at the Royal Lahaina Tennis Ranch in Maui. He is scheduled to leave Monday evening for that event and will miss the team's season opener against UC Irvine this Wednesday at the LATC (2:00 p.m.)
