Tennis Teams in Action This Weekend

The second-ranked UCLA men's tennis team (18-1; 4-0 Pac-12) continues Pac-12 play this week, hosting both Washington and Oregon at the Los Angeles Tennis Center. The Bruins and Huskies will do battle on Friday at 1:30 p.m., while the Ducks visit the LATC on Saturday at 11:30 a.m. (Note: This match was originally scheduled to begin at 1:00 p.m.).

UCLA improved to 4-0 in the Pac-12 last week, downing both Utah (6-1) and Arizona (7-0) at the LATC. The two victories also pushed the Bruins' winning streak to nine, with the team's last loss coming back on Feb. 17 (L, 4-3 to USC at National Team Indoors).

UCLA remained at No. 2 in the national team rankings this week, checking in right behind top-ranked and undefeated Virginia. Georgia, USC and Ohio State round out the top 5. Individual rankings were also released this Tuesday and here is where Bruin players are currently ranked:

With two wins this past weekend, freshman Marcos Giron and Dennis Mkrtchian in the 20-win club. Giron leads the team in victories with 25, while Mkrtchian ranks second with 23. Sell, who has won his last eight matches, is 21-7 overall.

Following this weekend, only two more regular-season matches remain for the Bruins, who will face No. 7 Pepperdine on Monday in Malibu and No. 4 USC at the LATC next Friday.

The No. 6 UCLA women's tennis team (15-4; 6-2 Pac-12) has just one match on tap this week, as the Bruins head to the Pacific Northwest for a Friday showdown with Oregon at 1:30 p.m. Live stats for the match can be accessed by clicking HERE.

The Bruins swept the Arizona schools last week on the road, taking a 5-2 win over Arizona last Friday in Tucson, and a 5-2 win over ASU on Saturday in Tempe. It marked a return to the win column for the Bruins, who had lost their previous two matches heading into the weekend.

With the two wins last week, UCLA moved up from No. 9 to No. 6 in the national team rankings released on Tuesday. UCLA also has five players ranked in singles led by Kyle McPhillips (#71), Catherine Harrison (#84), Chanelle Van Nguyen (#111) are also ranked. In doubles, Anderson and Courtney Dolehide and Pamela Montez check in at No. 55. Complete rankings can be found by clicking HERE.

Following this week's showdown with Oregon, the Bruins close out the regular season at No. 5 USC on Thursday, April 18. That match will begin at 1:30 p.m. and will be covered by the Pac-12 Networks.
