Friday marks the second meeting between the two cross-town rivals this season, as the Bruins already own a 4-0 victory over the Trojans at the USTA/ITA National Team Indoors back on Feb. 8. In that match, UCLA won the doubles point and then received singles victories from Robin Anderson, Kyle McPhillips and Kaitlin Ray.
UCLA fell from No. 2 to No. 3 in this week's national team rankings despite not playing a match last week. National Team Indoor Champion Duke and Florida are both ranked ahead of the Bruins. Alabama and Virginia round out the top 5. Individual rankings stayed the same this week, with Robin Anderson remaining at No. 3 in the country in singles. She is followed by No. 9 Chanelle Van Nguyen, No. 19 Jennifer Brady, No. 36 Kyle McPhillips and No. 50 Catherine Harrison. In doubles, Anderson and Brady are currently ranked No. 1 in the nation, with Harrison and McPhillips not far behind at No. 11.
Soon after this Friday's contest with USC, the Bruins will get two days of before hosting No. 18 Baylor. The Bears are scheduled to visit the LATC on Monday at 1:30 p.m. It marks the final non-conference match of the year for UCLA, as the team opens up conference action at Utah on March 14.
