Watch Tuesday's UCLA vs. UNC NCAA Tennis Final LIVE
By: UCLA Athletics

  • UCLA is making its eighth all-time appearance in the NCAA title match, following appearances in 1982 (lost to Stanford, 6-3), 1989 (lost to Stanford, 5-0), 1991 (lost to Stanford, 5-1), 2004 (lost to Stanford, 4-1), 2007 (lost to Georgia Tech, 4-2), 2008 (def. Cal, 4-0) and 2012 (lost to Florida, 4-0). The Bruins claimed their only NCAA Championship in 2008 in Tulsa, Okla. This year marks head coach Stella Sampras Webster’s fifth NCAA Final appearance.
  • UCLA leads the all-time series with North Carolina 4-2. The last time these two teams met was in the final of the 2013 USTA/ITA National Team Indoor Championships, a 4-3 North Carolina victory.
  • As an athletic program, UCLA leads the nation in NCAA team championships with 110. The last Bruin team to win an NCAA title was women’s soccer, which captured its first-ever national championship this past December.
  • Freshman Jennifer Brady takes a 23-match winning streak into Tuesday’s final, as the Boca Raton, Fla. native has not lost a singles match since Feb. 10. The last player to beat Brady was Duke’s Hanna Mar at the USTA/ITA National Team Indoors. Brady also leads the team in both overall victories (37) and dual-match victories (21). Not to be left out, Robin Anderson also owns a singles winning streak at 13.
  • Tuesday’s battle at court No. 1 will feature the nation’s top 2 players, as top-ranked Jamie Loeb of UNC faces second-ranked Robin Anderson of UCLA. Anderson and Loeb met in the singles final at both the Riviera/ITA All-American Championships and the USTA/ITA National Indoor Intercollegiate Championships, both won by Loeb.
  • UCLA has not lost the doubles point in any match this year, going a perfect 28-0. In fact, only six teams have been able to win a single doubles match against the Bruins, who are 57-6 this year in combined doubles matches.
  • With California featuring some of the nation’s best tennis talent, it’s amazing to think that UCLA does not feature even one West Coast player in its starting lineup. Kaitlin Ray grew up the closest to UCLA and she is from Little Rock, Ark. Other home towns include: Germantown, Tenn. (Catherine Harrison), Hinsdale, Ill. (Courtney Dolehide), Willoughby, Ohio (Kyle McPhillips), Matawan, N.J. (Robin Anderson), Boca Raton, Fla. (Jennifer Brady) and Miami (Chanelle Van Nguyen).
  • UCLA and North Carolina have faced four common opponents this season (Duke, Miami, Stanford and Northwestern). The Bruins own a 4-1 record against those teams, with the lone loss coming against Duke at the USTA/ITA National Team Indoors. North Carolina is 3-3 against the four teams, with all three losses coming to Duke.
  • Despite being a junior, 2014 marks Kaitlin Ray’s first time playing in the NCAA Tournament, as injuries have been a big part of her career up until this point. Ray lost just three matches her freshman year to post a 29-3 overall record. Unfortunately, she suffered an intercostal muscle tear with three regular season matches remaining, an injury that eventually sidelined her for the Pac-12 and NCAA Tournaments. Ray returned to action the following fall, but in January suffered a torn tendon in her right ring finger, requiring another layoff from tennis. She played sparingly her sophomore season and again did not see any action in the postseason.
  • UCLA could very well be playing in the final again next season, as the Bruins are losing just one player from today’s lineup in Courtney Dolehide, who is at No. 3 doubles. UCLA returns all six singles players and will be adding Blue Chip recruit Kristin Wiley (Fort Lauderdale, Fla.).
