LOS ANGELES - After suffering a tough loss in the final of the National Team Indoors last week, the second-ranked UCLA women's tennis team got back in the win column on Wednesday afternoon, dispatching of No. 26 Pepperdine, 7-0 at the Los Angeles Tennis Center. The Bruins (9-1) will now get a day off before hosting one of their biggest home contests of the season, as No. 4 Cal visits the LATC this Friday at 1:30 p.m. (aired live on Pac-12 Networks).

UCLA thoroughly dominated doubles play on Wednesday, claiming the point after a pair of 8-0 victories at court Nos. 1 and 2. After second-ranked Robin Anderson and Jennifer Brady didn't surrender a single game against Lorraine Guillermo and Pattaraporn Salirathavibhaga at court No. 1, 29th-ranked Catherine Harrison and Kyle McPhillips followed suit, also posting a shutout at the No. 2 spot. UCLA was up 5-4 at court No. 3, however that match was suspended once the point was clinched.

Although UCLA would go on to win all six matches in singles play, Pepperdine (4-2) made the Bruins work for it. Straight-set victories by Kaitlin Ray (court No. 6), Chanelle Van Nguyen (court No. 2) and Harrison (court No. 5) were the only routine singles wins on the afternoon for UCLA. The three remaining singles matches were all close, with Anderson downing Guillermo in a 10-point tiebreaker in place of a third set at court No. 1, and McPhillips needing a third set to beat Michaela Capannolo at court No. 4. In the final match of the afternoon, Bruin freshman Jennifer Brady overcame a slow start to beat Ale Granillo, 1-6, 6-3, 7-6(5).

First serve for this Friday's UCLA-Cal showdown is scheduled for 1:30 p.m. Free pizza will be available for the first 100 fans in attendance. Fans will also have the chance to win prizes in the Bruin Trivia Contest.
