WALUNT CREEK, CA - Pac-10 Commissioner Tom Hansen announced the 2000 All-Pac-10 and All-Academic Pac-10 volleyball teams on Tuesday, and seven Bruins were among the honorees.
Two Bruins, senior middle blocker Elisabeth Bachman (Lakeville, MN) and junior outside hitter Kristee Porter (Tyler, TX) were named first-team All-Pac-10. Joining Bachman and Porter on the All-Pac-10 team as honorable mention selections were junior Ashley Bowles (Manhattan Beach, CA), sophomore Lauren Fendrick (Carlsbad, CA) and junior setter Erika Selsor (Linden, CA). Ella Harley (Santa Cruz, CA) was named to the honorable mention All-Freshman team.
Three Bruins earned All-Academic notice, with Bachman's 3.65 GPA in Communications Studies earning first-team recognition. Fendrick, who has not yet declared an academic major, was a second-team selection with a 3.90 GPA. Senior defensive specialist Michelle Quon (Dana Point, CA) was an honorable mention All-Academic selection.
This is the second academic award of the season for Bachman and Fendrick, who were named to the first and second teams, respectively, on the recently announced Verizon Academic All-District VIII list. As a first-team selection, Bachman is now eligible for selection to the National Verizon Women's Volleyball Academic All-America team, which will be announced on Tuesday, December 12.
UCLA, which currently has a 20-7 overall record and finished third in the Pac-10 standings with a 14-4 conference record, completes its regular season schedule this week, as they participate in the Baylor Thanksgiving Classic in Waco, TX, on Nov. 24-25. The field for the NCAA Division I Women's Volleyball Championship will be announced this Sunday, Nov. 26.
