The Bruins completed their 2005 tournament schedule on Sunday afternoon with a 3-0 loss at then-No. 13 Wisconsin and now turn their attention north, to the Bay Area where UCLA will travel to face No. 25 California and No. 3 Stanford to open Pac-10 play this weekend. UCLA has an all-time perfect record of 46-0 against the Golden Bears, while Saturday night's match against No. 3 Stanford will be a key early-season test for the Bruins. The UCLA at Stanford match will be played on Saturday night, but will air on a tape-delayed basis on Sunday at 3 pm PT as part of the "NCAA Volleyball on CSTV: AVCA Match of the Week" season series. This marks the second consecutive week that the Bruins will be featured on the AVCA Match of the Week. Knee injuries to three key players (see Injury Report on page three of this release) suffered during last week's InnTowner Invitational will force UCLA into a significantly different look for this weekend's matches at Cal and Stanford.

No. 25 California (7-2)
The Golden Bears completed their pre-conference schedule with a 7-2 record, falling in give games to San Diego and Nevada before rebounding with sweeps of Montana State and Akron last weekend in Nevada. The Golden Bears are coached by seventh-year mentor Rich Feller. Despite several close calls over the past few years, the Bruins maintain a perfect 46-0 record all-time against California, including last year's contests that included a three-game victory on Oct. 8 in Pauley Pavilion and a five-game win on Nov. 5 in Berkeley.

No. 3 Stanford (11-1) • NCAA Volleyball on CSTV: AVCA Match of the Week
The defending NCAA Champions, third-ranked Stanford lost its second match of the season at Nebraska during the AVCA/NACWAA Showcase in Omaha, Neb., and has won its last 10 games since that time. The Cardinal has only been pushed past the minimum three games on three occasions, a season-opening five-game loss to Penn State as well as four-game wins over Syracuse on Sept. 3 and on Sunday against No. 24 UCSB. Stanford is coached by John Dunning, who is in his fifth year on The Farm. UCLA leads the all-time series against Stanford by a 34-31 margin, including a pair of losses to Stanford last season: a four-game loss at Pauley Pavilion on Oct. 9 and a five-game loss at Stanford on Nov. 4.

Banachowski Nears 1,000th Victory
Entering the InnTowner Invitational with a career record of 991-257 (.794), UCLA head coach Andy Banachowski needs just nine more wins to become the first Collegiate Women's Volleyball head coach with 1,000 career wins. In his 39th season on the Bruin bench, Banachowski trails only UCLA men's coach Al Scates for wins by a collegiate volleyball coach. Banachowski was an All-America setter for Scates during his collegiate career at UCLA. (Scates holds a career record of 1109-200.) The first women's volleyball coach to be inducted into the National Volleyball Hall of Fame in Holyoke, Mass., Banachowski has coached the Bruins to six national championships, including three NCAA titles.
