LINCOLN, NE - The seventh-ranked UCLA women's volleyball team opened their weekend at the US Bank/Arby's Classic in Lincoln, NE, on Friday night with a 3-0 win over No. 20 Notre Dame. Game scores were 30-28, 30-23, 30-26. With the win, UCLA improves to 4-0 on the season, while the Irish fall to 3-1.

UCLA squeaked out a game one win in a close first game of the match, closing it out after a 28-28 tie with a block assist by Brynn Murphy and Kristee Porter, followed by a service ace from junior middle blocker Angela Eckmier. After taking an early lead in game two, the Bruins allowed the Irish to climb back into the game, tying it up at 15-15, but the Bruins took over from that point on, cruising to a 30-23 win and going up 2-0 in the match.

In that second game, Porter recorded her 1,000th career dig, becoming the first Pac-10 player and second Bruin in history to reach both the 2,000 kill and 1,000 dig milestones. Junior outside hitter Lauren Fendrick continued the impressive play that earned her All-Tournament honors last weekend, cruising through the first two games of the match with 10 kills on 14 swings for an impressive .571 attack percentage to go along with three digs and two block assists. She would finish her evening midway through game three with 12 kills on 20 attempts for a .400 attack percentage.

UCLA pulled out to a four-point lead early in game three before Notre Dame climbed back to tie the match at 13 and 14, but the Bruins regained the lead for good, putting together a five-point service by senior setter Erika Selsor to earn a 2-15 lead, and eventually close out the game and match with a 30-26 win.

For the match, the Bruins hit .258 as a team, and played a total of 12 players. Freshman Brittany Ringel saw the first match action of her career, while Cira Wright and Heather Cullen were replacements at Middle Blocker and junior co-captain Lauren Hogan played half the match as a defensive specialist.

UCLA returns to action on Saturday at 3:30 pm Central Time with a match against No. 15 Pepperdine, and will conclude the weekend's play on Sunday at 3:30 against the host school, top-ranked Nebraska.
