LOS ANGELES - Junior Rachael Kidder had a match-high 15 kills, while senior Lainey Gera added 17 digs, but the second-ranked Bruins were upset by Arizona for the second time this season in a three-set sweep at the John Wooden Center on Friday. Set scores were 25-23, 25-23, 25-20.

The Bruins fall to 23-5 overall and 16-4 in Pac-12 play, while the Wildcats improve to 18-10 and 10-9 in league action.

Kidder added seven digs and three blocks. Sophomore Kelly Reeves was one kill shy of a double-double with nine and 10 digs. Senior Sara Sage added eight kills, junior Tabi Love posted seven, senior Lauren Van Orden had 40 assists and six digs and sophomore Meg Norton recorded six digs. The Bruins hit .189 as a team.

Arizona led from start to finish in the opening set, scoring four of the first five and seven of the first nine. The Wildcats were still up by four at 14-10 when the Bruins scored three in a row on a kill by Reeves and back-to-back UA attack errors to get to within one at 14-13. But Arizona responded with the next four to get its cushion back up to five at 18-13.

A 5-2 UCLA run got the home squad back to within a pair at 20-18, as Kidder had two kills, Love and Van Orden added one each and Arizona committed an attack error. But despite the Bruins getting to within one again at 24-23, the Wildcats held on for the 25-23 win in the first. Reeves led the Bruins with six kills and no hitting errors in eight attempts (.750), Kidder added five kills and Love posted three. The Wildcats out-hit the Bruins .310 to .290.

In the second set, neither team led by more than three, but the Wildcats came back late to take a 2-0 lead to intermission. UCLA was up early 5-2 on three kills by Kidder and two from Sage. However, Arizona came back with a 5-2 run of its own to even the score at seven. UCLA responded with four of five on a kill by Reeves, a combo block by Kidder and senior Katie Camp and two kills from Kidder, but the Wildcats again came back with three in a row to even the score at 11.

Six ties later, the Bruins were up 18-17, but the Wildcats scored three straight to take a 20-18 edge. Arizona would not trail for the rest of the set. Down 24-21 with three set points facing them, the Bruins got the next two on an Arizona service error and a Love kill, but the Wildcats held on again and won the second 25-23. Kidder paced the Bruins with six kills, Sage added five and Love posted three. Gera had 11 digs in the second, as the Wildcats out-hit the Bruins .333 to .279.

In the third set, the Bruins again led early, but the Wildcats came back to finish off the sweep. UCLA held an early 7-5 lead on two kills by both Kidder and Sage, two Arizona attack errors and a kill by sophomore Mariana Aquino. The Wildcats came back with the next three to take an 8-7 edge, and still led 11-10, but three in a row by the Bruins on kills from Van Orden and Love and an Arizona attack error put the home squad back up 13-11.

However, Arizona rattled off the next three and 10 of the next 13 to go up by five at 21-16. The Bruins got as close as three at 21-18 and 22-19, but were unable to come back, eventually falling 25-20. Kidder had four kills in the third, while Aquino and Sage each produced three. The Bruins were out-hit .135 to .000.

The Bruins continue their three-match homestand on Sunday against Arizona State at 1 p.m. at the John Wooden Center. Gametracker and free audio and video will be available at UCLABruins.com.
