Oregon State tied it up at five and seven, but three in a row on a Beaver service error, a Kidder ace and a McGraw stuff block put the Bruins back up by three at 10-7. The Bruins' biggest lead of the set was four on several occasions.

Oregon State stayed within reach and tied the score again at 17, but the Bruins responded with four straight on consecutive kills by McGraw, an ace from Gera and a Beaver attack error to go up 21-17. The teams sided out the next nine points, before a kill from Reeves and an OSU attack error gave the Bruins their first lead of the set at 10-9.

The Bruins still led at 11-10, but the Beavers rebounded with six of the next seven to take a 16-12 advantage. Oregon State would lead for the rest of the set. An Aquino/Todorovic combo block, a Todorovic kill and a Beaver attack error accounted for the next three points to make it 6-1, while an Aquino kill and back-to-back kills from Kidder gave the Bruins a 9-1 lead.

The Beavers got to within five at 11-6, but the Bruins scored the next three on two kills from Camp and a Camp/Van Orden combo block to make it 14-6. UCLA saw its lead get to double figures for the first time following a 3-0 mini-run to make it 20-10.
