BAKERSFIELD, Calif. - Senior Dicey McGraw joined a grand club on Thursday, becoming the 25th Bruin to surpass 1,000-career kills, as #13 UCLA swept CSU Bakersfield on Thursday at the Icardo Center. Set scores were 25-14, 25-17, 25-22.

The Bruins improve to 7-1 with the win, while the Roadrunners fall to 0-8.

McGraw had six kills and no errors in 12 attacks for a .500 hitting percentage in just two sets of action, giving her 1,001 kills as a Bruin. Sophomore Mari Hole led the Bruins with 13 kills, also hitting .500 with three errors in 20 swings. Freshman Meg Norton came off the bench to post 10 kills in the last two sets, including nine in the third, while freshman Kelly Reeves notched eight kills and one error in 13 attempts for a .538 percentage. The Bruins hit .415 for the match.

The Bruins scored the first three points of the match on back-to-back kills by Reeves and a McGraw ace, but the Roadrunners came back with seven of the next nine to take a 7-5 advantage. UCLA responded with the next eight to go up by six at 13-7. The run started with consecutive kills from sophomore Rachael Kidder and McGraw, which was followed by a Bakersfield attack error to give UCLA an 8-7 edge. McGraw then added another kill and a solo block to make it 10-7, back-to-back spikes by juniors Lauren Van Orden and Sara Sage made it 12-7 and a CSUB attack error finished off the run to increase the margin to 13-7.

UCLA's advantage never dipped below five for the rest of the set. Leading 17-10, the Bruins netted five straight on two kills apiece by Kidder and Reeves and one from McGraw to give UCLA a set-best advantage of a dozen. A Reeves kill and a Kidder solo block marked the final two points in a 25-14 victory in the opener. Kidder and Reeves each had five kills, while McGraw added four. The Bruins out-hit the Roadrunners .424 to .074 in the opener.

The Bruins led from start to finish in the second set, scoring the first four points on kills by Reeves and freshman Mariana Aquino, a Bakersfield attack error and a Van Orden ace. Up 6-2, UCLA went on a 4-1 run thanks to pair of kills by Hole, one from Reeves and a Sage/Van Orden combo roof to make it 10-3. McGraw recorded her 1,000th-career kill midway through the second set on a spike that put the Bruins up 12-7.

The Roadrunners closed to within three at 13-10, but the Bruins went on a 4-1 run on a Bakersfield service error and three kills by Hole to make it 17-11. UCLA's biggest lead of the set was eight on a few occasions. A kill by sophomore Bojana Todorovic on the Bruins' second set point gave the visitors a 25-17 victory. Hole posted six kills in the second, while Reeves added three. The Bruins were out-hit in the set .370 to .353.

The Bruins saw some reserves get some action in the third set. Bakersfield scored two of the first three points of the third set, but the Bruins got the next two on kills by Todorovic and Norton and never trailed for the rest of the set. Tied at three, the Bruins scored three in a row and eight of the next nine to take an 11-4 advantage. Norton had two kills during the 3-0 run, while Todorovic had one. One sideout later, UCLA recorded five in a row on two kills by Hole, a spike by freshman Jenna Scilacci, an ace by senior Amber McBenttez and a Bakersfield attack error.

UCLA's largest lead of the set was eight at 15-7. The Roadrunners made things interesting towards the end of the third, cutting their deficit to a pair at 23-21. But Norton had two of the match's final three points on kills, as UCLA won the third 25-22. Norton had nine kills in the third, Hole added seven and Todorovic posted four. The Bruins out-hit the Roadrunners .462 to .286.

The Bruins return to the court on Tuesday with a non-conference match at Cal State Northridge at 7 p.m. Gametracker and live audio will be available at UCLABruins.com.
