#9 UCLA Claims Alexis Park Classic Title With Win Over Idaho

LAS VEGAS, Nev. - Senior Kaitlin Sather paced the Bruins with 10 kills, while junior Dicey McGraw posted nine kills and 10 digs, as the ninth-ranked Bruins claimed the Alexis Park Classic tournament title with a sweep of Idaho on Saturday at the Cox Pavilion. Scores were 25-21, 25-21, 25-17.

The Bruins improve to 5-1 with the win, while the Vandals fall to 4-2.

Six different Bruins had at least four kills. Sophomore Amanda Gil had eight, while sophomore Sara Sage and freshmen Mari Hole and Bojana Todorovic had four apiece. Freshman Lauren Cook had 32 assists, while sophomore Lainey Gera posted 13 digs. The Bruins hit .233 as a team.

Idaho held an early lead in the opening set, going up by as many as four at 9-5. The Bruins rallied though with six of the next seven to take an 11-10 edge. Gil and McGraw each had a pair of kills, while Gera served two aces during the 6-1 run. The Bruins never trailed for the rest of the set.

Down 17-14, the Vandals rallied to tie the set at 18 and 19, but the Bruins scored six of the last eight points to take the opener 25-21. Hole had two of the six points on kills, while sophomore Katie Camp had two blocks, including a combo roof with McGraw to end the set. UCLA out-hit Idaho .282 to .186. Hole and Sather each had four kills during the first, while Gil and McGraw had three apiece.

Idaho again had an early lead in the second at 4-3, but it was short-lived, as UCLA rallied with eight of the next 10 to go ahead 11-6. Todorovic posted three kills and a block during the 8-2 run, Camp had two kills and a roof and Sather added two kills. The Bruins never trailed for the rest of the set, but the Vandals made a late run to make things interesting.

Down 15-9, Idaho netted seven of the next eight to even things at 16. But the Bruins didn't relinquish the lead and went on for the 25-21 victory. With the score 20-19, UCLA scored five of the final seven points to win it by four. The set ended on an Idaho attack error. Sather had four more kills in the second, as did Todorovic, while McGraw added three. UCLA out-hit Idaho .205 to .167 in the second.

The Vandals were again outplaying the Bruins to open the third set, but UCLA stayed within reach and finally took the lead for good midway through the set. Down 10-6, the Bruins scored seven of the next nine to go ahead 13-12. Four different Bruins had kills during the run. Idaho scored the next two to take a 14-13 advantage, but a 3-0 run gave UCLA the lead for good at 16-14. Gil had a kill and an ace, while a Sather spike gave the Bruins a two-point lead.

Idaho tied it back up at 16, but UCLA scored nine of the final 10 points of the set to win it 25-17. The ran began with back-to-back kills by Sage, who added another kill and two blocks later during that stretch. The Vandals had consecutive attack errors to end the match. Gil and Sage had four kills each in the third, with Sage adding three blocks. McGraw added three kills. The Bruins hit .212 in the finale and limited the Vandals to a -.083 hitting percentage.

Alicia Milo had 13 kills to lead the Vandals, while Sarah Conwell posted 12 kills. Idaho hit .119 as a team.
