Tammy Jackson Player Diary
Bruin setter Tammy Jackson has submitted a weekly web diary for much of the 2005 UCLA women's volleyball season. The junior from Poway, Calif., played a critical role in UCLA's 2004 season, stepping in for three matches in mid-October. Jackson will provide weekly insight into the Bruins season with this web journal.

On Friday night, we finished our season with a loss to Nebraska. The Huskers had a strong front line and really gave us a hard time. Though the game didn't go our way, it was quite an experience playing in front of 14,489 fans. The sea of red shirts seemed to rise infinitely above us and the stadium was electrified by the energy of the mass it somehow contained. To put it simply, it was intense. It was extremely cold in Nebraska, or at least that's what I was told, I never went out side-except to hop on the bus to the airport.
During our free time we studied and watched video to prepare for the game. We had meals catered at the hotel for lunch, which was a nice luxury, and ate most other meals in the hotel's restaurant so that we didn't have to expose ourselves to the chill outside.
Last week we hosted the first and second rounds of playoffs against Kansas and USD. When we faced the Kansas Jayhawks, our Men's Volleyball team dressed as different characters from the Wizard of Oz. We had a green-faced wicked witch, a tinfoil Tin Man, a plush baby-Halloween costume for the Lion, multiple Munchkins over 6'5" and even a skinny-legged Dorothy. It was quite a sight. After the loss, we were all a bit teary-eyed, for it was our last match with Nancy Barba who will graduate this Spring and then move back to Texas. She had a very successful year and career and we're all proud her for what she's brought to our program.
Now that the season is done and the school quarter is wrapping up, we are all anxious to return home to our families and loved ones. Season is a very exciting time of year, but it can also be emotionally tough because our schedules keep us from spending as much time as we'd like with those we hold close. We're all looking forward to getting back to the ones we love. In closing, I'd like to thank the parents and fans for their continued support throughout the year. It's a wild ride and you are the ones that make it worthwhile. Thanks again, much love.
