Sophomore James Kaprielian has been named the Pac-12 Pitcher of the Week for May 19-25, as announced by Conference office on Monday.
Kaprielian led the Bruins to a 3-0 shutout victory at No. 8 Washington on Friday night, pitching eight scoreless innings while allowing just four hits and striking out 11. Kaprielian also retired nine of the first 10 batters he faced and logged double-digit strikeouts for the second straight start and for the third time in his last four starts. Kaprielian allowed two runs or less in 11 of his 15 starts this season and pitched at least seven innings in eight of those starts. Overall, Kaprielian led all UCLA starters with a 2.29 ERA and finished the regular season as the Pac-12 leader in strikeouts with 108.
Kaprielian picks up his first-ever Pac-12 Pitcher of the Week nod and the 67th overall for the Bruins. He is the third UCLA pitcher to earn the weekly award in 2014 as teammates Cody Poteet and Grant Watson were honored earlier in the season.
