The UCLA Baseball team hosted Waseda University from Japan on Tuesday night in an exhibition game at Jackie Robinson Stadium. The Bruins dropped a 2-1 decision to Waseda in the game.

Waseda jumped out to the early lead, getting a RBI single from catcher Shunsuke Michibata in the top of the second to go ahead 1-0. UCLA then tied things up in the bottom of the fourth when freshman Luke Persico doubled to the left-center gap, scoring freshman Brett Stephens from second to even the game at 1-1.

Waseda took the lead for good in the top of the ninth when Kazayuki Muto scored Kazunari Ishii from third with a RBI groundout. The Bruins could not score in the bottom half of the inning and Waseda won the exhibition 2-1. After the game, both teams posed for a photo behind home plate to commemorate the event.

Freshman Tucker Forbes started the game for the Bruins, tossing two innings. Sophomore Jake Ehret then pitched two innings of his own before giving way to junior Max Schuh in the fifth. Schuh logged an inning before freshmen Chase Radan and Moises Ceja finished the game with two innings apiece.

UCLA (7-5) will returns to regular season play this weekend as the Bruins take on a trio of opponents. UCLA will host Pepperdine (9-3) and Houston (8-2) on Friday and Saturday respectively before heading across town to play rivals USC (8-3). Game times are 6 p.m., 2 p.m. and 1 p.m. respectively.
