LOS ANGELES - The defending NCAA champion UCLA baseball program has sent 21 players, including three incoming freshmen, to play in some of the most competitive summer baseball leagues around the country.

David Berg headlines the group with his second stint pitching for the U.S. Collegiate National Team. Berg posted a 3.72 ERA with two saves and 10 strikeouts in 13.2 innings for the Collegiate National Team in 2012. Berg becomes the seventh UCLA selection to the Collegiate National Team in the last five years and the eighth selection under head coach John Savage.

In addition, Berg has become the fourth UCLA ballplayer to compete for Team USA in two different years, joining Gerrit Cole (2009-10), Josh Karp (1999-00) and Troy Glaus (1995-96) on that list.

Three UCLA ballplayers will play in the prestigious Cape Cod League this summer. Pitcher James Kaprielian and outfielder Eric Filia will play for the Yarmouth-Dennis Red Sox while infielder Kevin Kramer will compete for the Orleans Firebirds.

UCLA has sent nine players to the West Coast Collegiate League (WCCL). Cody Poteet and incoming freshmen Luke Persico and Dominic Miroglio will compete for the Walla Walla Sweets. Pitchers Chase Radan and Jake Ehret and infielder Trent Chatterton will compete for the Bellingham Bells. Brett Urabe will play for the Victoria HarbourCats, and incoming freshman Scott Burke will pitch for the Klamath Falls Gems. Incoming freshman Brett Stephens will play for the Wenatchee AppleSox.

Five Bruins will play in the Northwoods League. Christoph Bono, Max Schuh and Justin Hazard will compete for the Duluth Hukies. Chris Keck will play for the La Crosse Loggers and catcher Darrell Miller Jr. will compete for the Lakeshore Chinooks.

Ty Moore and Tucker Forbes will play in the New England Collegiate League for the Newport Gulls and New Bedford Bay Sox, respectively.

Pitcher Nick Kern will compete for the Santa Barbara Foresters of the California Collegiate League.
