UCLA incoming freshman guard Bryce Alford scored a game-high 31 points to lead the North All-Stars in the New Mexico High School Coaches’ Association 5A/4A All-Star Game on Thursday evening at Albuquerque High School.

Alford’s 31 points helped the North defeat the South, 119-101, in Thursday’s all-star contest.

A four-year varsity letterwinner at La Cueva High School in Albuquerque, N.M., Alford finished his high school career as the state’s all-time single-season scoring leader (1,050 points). He eclipsed the previous record of 1,033 points set by 7-foot Nick Pino of Santa Fe St. Michael’s in 1963.

As a senior at La Cueva, Alford averaged 37.7 points, 8.5 rebounds and 6.4 assists per game in leading his team to a 22-6 overall record and an appearance in the Class 5A quarterfinals. He secured 2013 Gatorade Player of the Year honors in New Mexico.

Earlier this summer, Alford participated in the USA Basketball Men’s U19 World Championship team training camp (June 14-16) at the U.S. Olympic Training Center in Colorado Springs, Colo. A 6-foot-3 guard, Alford joins the UCLA basketball team in 2013-14 as one of five incoming players.
