Sept. 23, 2013

MIAMI, Fla. – Former UCLA guard Larry Drew II has signed with the Miami Heat, as announced by the organization earlier Monday.

Drew II starred for UCLA during the 2012-13 season, guiding the Bruins to the Pac-12 regular-season crown and to the program’s third NCAA Tournament appearance in the last four seasons. He graduated from UCLA with a degree in history in June 2013.

A former standout at Taft High School (Woodland Hills, Calif.), Drew II established UCLA’s single-season assist record (256) during his senior season.

Drew II averaged 7.5 points, 7.3 assists, 2.4 rebounds, 1.40 steals and 35.5 minutes per game in 2012-13, shooting 44.6 percent from the field and 43.3 percent from three-point range. He played 1,243 minutes that season, the fourth-highest mark for a single-season in UCLA history. Drew II secured All-Pac-12 first team acclaim and was selected to the Pac-12 All-Tournament Team.

The only UCLA player to start every contest in 2012-13, Drew II transferred to UCLA in March 2011 after having played at the University of North Carolina for three seasons. He sat out the 2011-12 season due to NCAA transfer rules.

Drew II is among 14 former UCLA basketball players currently on NBA rosters.
