UCLA head coach Steve Alford
"I really like the effort, our effort was OK during the first half. Our intensity was much better in the second half. I was pleased with the guys overall effort. The exhibition was used for us to validate what we have been trying to teach. Our turnovers are something we have to work on. We don't want to have 18 turnovers.

"Our freshmen [Bryce and Zach] really gave us a lift off the bench. I was very pleased with their intensity.

"When we walk in the hallway from that locker room, I want our players to know how special a place UCLA is and that they understand the tradition. It's a special feeling. Not only do I want our players to feel this way, but we want our staff to have that same feeling.

"It was special to see Nan [Wooden] there. I saw her last at breakfast on Coach's birthday and she told me that she would be here today."

sophomore Jordan Adams
"We struggled with offensive rebounding last year. That has been our main focus this year as well. It was fun getting back into action, since the Arizona game. I just wanted to relax and let the game come to me."

junior Norman Powell
"Coach really got on us during halftime about playing better defense and understanding that the defense would lead to us getting opportunities in transition. He also wanted us to eliminate second-chance points. We really wanted to stay focused. I really like the offense. It fits my style, and I think it fits the style of other guards on our team since we have athletic wing players."

Cal State San Bernardino head coach Jeff Oliver
on the difference between each half
"I thought we fought in the first half. Then they came out in the second half and threw some punches out of the gate and we didn't respond. We can't do that. Credit to them for the way they played. I thought they raised the intensity level in the second half and we just didn't match it."

on taking positives from this game
"I thought Donte Medder had some moments and that Lacy Haddock started off really well. I also thought Kleem Perkins had a tremendous first half in his first game as a freshman. There were definitely some positives but there were some negatives as well. Our bigs have to stay out of foul trouble and adjust to the officiating. Especially in a game like this where UCLA is so big, we needed our size out on the court. Overall, I liked what I saw from our team in the first half. We competed with a top-25 team in the country for 20 minutes."

on their defense
"We defended the three very well in the first half, but the worst thing tonight was our transition defense. We got in foul trouble because of not getting back in transition. They did a great job of pushing the ball and we were terrible in transition. Some of our bad shots led to quick transition buckets and some of our turnovers did as well. I thought we defended their sets pretty well, they just killed us in transition."
