The Bruins improved to 3-0 with an 86-50 victory over Sacramento State on Monday, Nov. 18. Jordan Adams led the team in scoring for the third consecutive game, totaling 21 points and a career-high eight steals. David Wear (12 pts, 10 rbs) registered his second double-double in three games. Norman Powell and Zach LaVine each scored 14 points, while Tony Parker added 10 points. UCLA shot 54.5 percent (30-55), while limiting the visiting Hornets to 33.9 percent from the field (21-62). Kyle Anderson dished a career-high eight assists in the victory.

Jordan Adams’ career-high eight steals against Sacramento State are the most in any game by a UCLA player since Nov. 28, 2006, when Darren Collison had nine in a non-conference home victory against Long Beach State. Adams had seven steals in one game last season and five steals in three contests.

UCLA will host one more regional round contest of the Las Vegas Invitational this Sunday evening against Chattanooga. Game time in Pauley Pavilion will be 7 p.m. The Bruins will continue play in the tournament next week at Orleans Arena in Las Vegas, facing Nevada on Thursday, Nov. 28, before taking on Northwestern on Friday, Nov. 29.

With three games under their belt, the Bruins have opened the year shooting at a 50.8 percent clip. Tony Parker has logged a team-high 73.9 field goal percentage (17-of-23), while Norman Powell has made 68.2 percent of his field goal attempts (15-of-22). UCLA has limited its opposition to a 34.2 field goal percentage and a 23.1 percent from three-point territory (18-for-78). Jordan Adams leads the team with a 52.9 three-point field goal percentage, having nailed nine of 17 treys. In 36 career contests, Adams has shot 32.9 percent from three-point range.

This marks the second consecutive season in which Jordan Adams has opened the year scoring in double digits in each of UCLA’s first three games. Last November, Adams became the first freshman in program history to score at least 20 points in his first four collegiate contests. This season, he scored 16 against Drexel (Nov. 8), 22 versus Oakland (Nov. 12) and 21 against Sacramento State (Nov. 18). Adams has scored at least 10 points in 28 of 36 collegiate games and has reached the 20-point plateau in 13 career contests.

Senior Travis Wear underwent appendectomy surgery on Oct. 28 and is expected to return to the lineup on Friday against Morehead State. Wear returned to practice on Wednesday, Nov. 20. Freshman Noah Allen suffered multiple fractures to his face after a collision with one of Oakland’s players on Nov. 12. He underwent surgery on Nov. 14. A timetable for his return has not been determined. Freshman Wanaah Bail underwent left knee surgery to repair torn cartilage on June 28. He has been participating in shooting exercises and non-contact drills and has been cleared for limited practice.

Ranked No. 22 in this week’s Associated Press poll, UCLA returns to the court this fall with six of its primary eight contributors from last season’s team. Three of UCLA’s five starters return from last season’s team – sophomores Jordan Adams and Kyle Anderson and senior Travis Wear – along with senior David Wear, junior Norman Powell and sophomore Tony Parker, who each played at least 33 of 35 games for UCLA last season.

Kyle Anderson has come within three assists of recording a triple-double in three games at UCLA. He twice finished three assists shy of the coveted mark in Dec. 2012. Anderson had 12 points, 12 rebounds and seven assists in UCLA’s 72-67 season-opening win over Drexel on Nov. 8. The sophomore from Fairview, N.J., is looking to become the first UCLA player to record a point-rebound-assist triple-double since Toby Bailey had 23 points, 10 rebounds and 10 assists against Stephen F. Austin during his sophomore season (Dec. 18, 1995).

Affectionately dubbed “instant offense” by classmate Kyle Anderson, sophomore Jordan Adams has scored in double figures in 28 of his 36 career games. Adams averaged 15.3 points per game last season and scored a team-high 21 points last Monday night in UCLA’s 86-50 win over Sacramento State. Adams has led UCLA in scoring 16 times (15 times by himself, once tied with two teammates) over the team’s last 38 games.
