CORVALLIS, Ore. - Kyle Anderson totaled 18 points and nine rebounds as the UCLA men’s basketball team lost at Oregon State, 71-67, in Gill Coliseum on Sunday afternoon.

Three days after having won at Oregon, 70-68, the Bruins pushed their first-half lead to as many as 11 points against Oregon State, securing a 27-16 advantage with 6:13 remaining before halftime.

Oregon State (13-8, 5-4) received a career-high 20 points from Hallice Cooke, shot made 7 of 9 field goal attempts and 4 of 6 shots from 3-point range. Eric Moreland recorded a double-double for the Beavers, logging 11 points and 14 rebounds.

UCLA led 52-47 with 8:16 to play in the second half before Oregon State used an 18-2 scoring run to lead, 65-54, at the 2:29 mark. The Beavers never trailed the rest of the way.

The Bruins were able to reduce Oregon State’s late 11-point cushion in the final three minutes. A layup by Norman Powell and a jump shot by Anderson cut OSU’s margin to 67-60 with 1:48 to play. Anderson’s layup followed by Zach LaVine’s steal and two free throws trimmed Oregon State’s advantage to 67-764 with 1:31 remaining.

After Oregon State’s Angus Brandt missed a pair of free throws with 1:05 to play, David Wear went to the charity stripe and made both free throw attempts, allowing UCLA to close the gap to 67-66.

The Beavers made their final four free throw attempts in the final 15 seconds and UCLA was unable to send the game into overtime or assume a lead.

Oregon State finished with four players scoring in double figures. The Bruins were able to hold Roberto Nelson, the Pac-12 Conference’s leading scorer, to 12 points on 2-of-8 shooting from the field. Brandt finished with 13 points and five rebounds for the Beavers.

UCLA returns to action at USC on Saturday, Feb. 8. Game time at USC’s Galen Center is 7:30 p.m. The crosstown showdown will be nationally televised on Pac-12 Networks.
