SPRINGFIELD, Mass. – UCLA sophomore Kyle Anderson has been selected as one of 23 point guards in the nation to the updated list of Bob Cousy Award candidates, as announced Monday by the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame.

Anderson has averaged closer to a triple-double than any other player in the country, logging averages of 15.4 points, 8.7 rebounds and 6.8 assists per game.

The Cousy Award is annually presented to the nation’s top point guard.

Anderson, a 6-foot-9 guard from Fairview, N.J., is one of just six players in the country who have been named to the most updated watch lists for the Bob Cousy Award, the John R. Wooden Award and the Naismith Trophy. The other five players in that group include Iowa State’s DeAndre Kane, Michigan State’s Keith Appling, Oklahoma State’s Marcus Smart, Connecticut’s Shabazz Napier and Massachusetts’ Chaz Williams.

Anderson leads all Pac-12 players in assists per game (6.8) and ranks fourth in the conference in both rebounds per game (8.7) and steals per game (1.6). He is 13th in the Pac-12 in scoring (15.4 ppg) and has compiled the conference’s fifth-best assist turnover ratio (2.1).

Anderson’s success running UCLA’s offense has helped propel the Bruins to a 20-5 overall record and 9-3 mark in the Pac-12, just one game behind first place Arizona (23-2, 10-2 Pac-12). UCLA currently leads all Pac-12 teams in assists per game (17.5), steals per game (10.0), turnover margin (+4.3) and assist turnover ratio (1.6).

Last week, Anderson averaged 19.0 points, 8.5 rebounds and 8.0 assists in the Bruins’ two home victories. He registered his conference-leading 13th and 14th double-doubles in wins against Colorado and Utah.

Anderson is tied for third in the nation with 14 double-doubles this season. Two players stand ahead of Anderson with 17 double-doubles each.
