Kyle Anderson Named Finalist for 2014 Lute Olson Award
By: UCLA Athletics

BOSTON - UCLA sophomore guard Kyle Anderson has been named one of 25 finalists for the 2014 Lute Olson Award, as announced this week by CollegeInsider.com.

Anderson, a 6-foot-9 product from Fairview, N.J., finished his sophomore campaign at UCLA having averaged 14.6 points per game in 36 contests. He led the Bruins with 8.8 rebounds and 6.5 assists per game. In addition, he finished second on the team in total steals (64, 1.8 spg) and led UCLA in blocks (27).

The Lute Olson Award is presented annually to the nation’s top Division I player who has played at least two seasons with his respective team. Freshmen and first-year transfers can be named to the All-America team but are not eligible to receive the Player of the Year Award.

The list of 25 finalists comprise the 2013-14 Lute Olson All-America Team. The winner of the 2014 award will be announced at the CollegeInsider.com Awards Banquet on April 4 in Dallas, site of the 2014 NCAA Final Four.

Under Anderson’s leadership in 2013-14, UCLA finished with a 28-9 overall record. The Bruins won their first Pac-12 Tournament title since 2008 and advanced to the NCAA Tournament’s Sweet 16 for the first time since 2008.

Anderson became the first player in the history of the Pac-12 Conference to have logged at least 200 rebounds and 200 assists in the same season. In fact, Anderson finished his sophomore year with 527 points, 315 rebounds and 233 assists. He tallied a 2.12 assist turnover ratio, the fourth-best mark among Pac-12 players.

Anderson ranks first in the Pac-12 in assists (6.5 apg), third in rebounds (8.8 rpg) and third in steals (1.8 spg) through games played March 27.

The award is named in honor of Lute Olson, who won 780 games in 34 seasons, 24 of which were spent at the University of Arizona.

The other 24 finalists include Ronnie Baker (Wichita State), Billy Baron (Canisius), Bryce Cotton (Providence), Cleanthony Early (Wichita State), Melvin Ejim (Iowa State), Tyler Ennis (Syracuse), C.J. Fair (Syracuse), Aaron Gordon (Arizona), Gary Harris (Michigan State), Joe Harris (Virginia), Nick Johnson (Arizona), DeAndre Kane (Iowa State), Sean Kilpatrick (Cincinnati), Doug McDermott (Creighton), Shabazz Napier (Connecticut), Jabari Parker (Duke), Adreian Payne (Michigan State), Julius Randle (Kentucky), Russ Smith (Louisville), Nik Stauskas (Michigan), Xavier Thames (San Diego State), T.J.
