LOS ANGELES – The UCLA men’s basketball team will face Gonzaga in a home-and-home series over the next two seasons, it was announced Wednesday.
UCLA will host the Bulldogs in Pauley Pavilion on Dec. 13, 2014. Gonzaga will in turn host the Bruins in Spokane, Wash., the following season on Dec. 12, 2015, or another mutually agreed upon date in December.
“We are excited to face Gonzaga in a home-and-home series beginning with the 2014-15 season,” UCLA head coach Steve Alford said. “Mark Few has built a strong and consistent program in Spokane, and we know this will be a very entertaining matchup for our fans in Pauley Pavilion. Playing Gonzaga will add to what we already believe is a very competitive non-conference schedule next season.”
The non-conference portion of the Bruins’ 2014-15 schedule includes a Thanksgiving week trip to the Bahamas (Nov. 26-28) where UCLA will compete in the annual Battle 4 Atlantis. This season’s eight-team field in the Battle 4 Atlantis includes Butler, Florida, Georgetown, North Carolina, Oklahoma, Alabama-Birmingham, UCLA and Wisconsin.
In addition, UCLA’s schedule will feature a neutral-site contest against Kentucky at the United Center in Chicago as part of the CBS Sports Classic on Saturday, Dec. 20.
UCLA’s upcoming home contest against Gonzaga will mark the Bulldogs’ first trip to Pauley Pavilion since the first-ever meeting between the two schools on Dec. 11, 1999. Most recently, UCLA faced Gonzaga on March 23, 2006, in the NCAA Tournament’s Sweet 16. In that game, the Bruins overcame a nine-point deficit with 3:27 left in regulation to secure a 73-71 victory and advance to the Elite Eight.
