UCLA Basketball Represented During 2014 NBA All-Star Weekend

Former UCLA standout Kevin Love of the Minnesota Timberwolves has earned his first career start in the NBA All-Star Game, to be played Sunday, Feb. 16, at New Orleans Arena.

Love will be competing in his third career NBA All-Star Game and will serve as the Bruins’ lone representative on either roster this season. Love and former UCLA guard Arron Afflalo will both compete in the Foot Locker Three-Point Contest on Saturday, Feb. 15.

A 6-foot-10 forward/center who starred for the Bruins as a freshman in 2007-08, Love has averaged 25.6 points, 13.2 rebounds and 4.0 assists in 47 games this season for Minnesota. He ranks fourth in the NBA in points per game and second in rebounds per game. Currently in his sixth NBA season, Love leads all NBA players with 41 double-doubles.

Love was also selected to compete in the NBA All-Star Game in 2010-11 and 2011-12. He finished with 661,246 total votes, the 11th highest total among all players. Love captured the third-most votes of any Western Conference frontcourt player.

Afflalo has averaged 19.9 points, 4.2 rebounds and 3.7 assists in 47 games for the Orlando Magic this season. A three-year standout for the Bruins (2004-05 through 2006-07), Afflalo is eighth among all NBA players in three-point field goal percentage (.427), having made 90 of 211 three-point attempts.

Love has shot 35.7 percent from three-point range, connecting on 107 of 285 attempts. His 107 three-point field goals is the 13th highest total among all NBA players.

The NBA All-Star Game on Sunday, Feb. 16, will be nationally televised on TNT at 5:00 p.m. (PT).

The Foot Locker Three-Point Contest on Saturday, Feb. 15, will be broadcast as part of State Farm All-Star Saturday Night on TNT.
