Three Bruins Named To 2014 McDonald's All-American Game Rosters
By: UCLA Athletics

LOS ANGELES, Calif. – All five of the nation's No. 1 recruiting class for UCLA were named McDonald's High School All-Americans and three Bruin signees, Recee' Caldwell, Jordin Canada and Lajahna Drummer, were named to the 12-woman roster to represent the West in the 13th edition of the McDonald’s High School All-American Game today. The three give UCLA the most players in the 2014 game and are the most to play in one game in school history. The 2008 game featured two Bruins that actually weren't Bruins when they played in the contest (Jasmine Dixon, Rutgers and Alyssia Brewer, Tennessee).

The three players are part of the nation's No. 1 recruiting class for the Bruins which consists of Canada (Los Angeles, Calif./Windward HS), Caldwell (San Antonio, Texas/FEAST), Drummer (Inglewood, Calif./Long Beach Poly), Kelli Hayes (San Jose, Calif./Archbishop Mitty HS) and Monique Billings (Corona, Calif./Santiago HS). The five newcomers will enter UCLA in the fall of 2014 as freshmen and will become members of the 2014-15 women's basketball team.

The trio increases UCLA's all-time roster in the McDonald's All-American Game to 10 Bruins since its inception in 2002. Other Bruin alumni to play in the game are Nikki Blue (2002), Noelle Quinn (2003), Lindsey Pluimer (2004), Jasmine Dixon (2008), Alyssia Brewer (2008), Markel Walker (2009) and Nirra Fields (2012).

Canada, a 5-6 point guard, averaged 17.0 points, 8.0 assists, 5.0 steals and 4.0 rebounds per game in the 2012-13 season, helping lead her Windward High School team out of Los Angeles, Calif., to a CIF Division 4AA state championship with a 30-0 record. The Wildcats also won the 4AA title her freshman season in 2010-11. She has been named first team All-League and League MVP all three seasons (2010-11, 2011-12, 2012-13) and was named the Los Angeles Times Player of the Year in 2012-13 as a junior. The Windward Offensive Player of the Year and team MVP in 2010-11 also won a gold medal with Team USA’s U16 squad in 2011. Caldwell, a 5-9 point guard, started all 33 games and averaged 17.4 points, 6.1 assists, 4.4 rebounds and 2.6 steals per game as a sophomore in 2011-12, leading Claudia Taylor Johnson to a 27-7 record. She was named to the 2012 San Antonio Express-News Super Team and to the 2012 Texas Association of Basketball Coaches All-State Team. She averaged 20.5 points, 5.0 rebounds, 5.0 assists and 2.5 steals per game as a freshman in 2010-11. She was also on the Team USA U16 squad with Canada that won a gold medal.
