Sofia and Senko were also honored with the Athletic Director's Academic Excellence Award for making the Director's Honor Roll (3.0 or higher GPA) every quarter they were at UCLA. Also receiving this distinction were swimmers Lauren Baker, Hayley Hacker and Ting Quah; rowers Victoria Babson, Carolina Paini, Meaghan Volker and Deanna Wong; cross country runners Elle Sanders and Jacob Wood; track and field's Natasha Kolbo and Michael Perry; men's water polo players Chris Fahlsing and Cristiano Mirarchi; men's volleyball player Spencer Rowe; baseball player Brian Carroll, women's soccer player Chelsea Braun; and tennis player Brendan Wee.
Twenty-two student-athletes were named to the All-Academic team, which is comprised of the person from each team with the highest cumulative GPA. The overall GPA of the 2013-14 UCLA All-Academic team is 3.65. All-Academic team honorees were third-year honorees Rachel Butler (women's cross country), Senko (swimming and diving), Sofia (men's soccer) and Wood (men's cross country); second-year honorees Jerry Neuheisel (football), Samantha Peszek (gymnastics), Chloe Kojima (rowing), Kaitlin Ray (women's tennis), Perry (track and field) and Rowe (men's volleyball); and first-time honorees Max Schuh (baseball), Kari Korver (women's basketball), Sooren Derboghosian (men's basketball), Louise Ridderstrom (women's golf), Nikolas Cook (men's golf), Marisa Schwartz (softball), Sarah Killion (women's soccer), Dennis Mkrtchian (men's tennis), Ida Storm (women's track and field), Rachel Inouye (women's volleyball), Victoria Kent (women's water polo) and Christopher Meinhold (men's water polo).
Men's soccer's Max Estrada and women's golf's Erynne Lee earned the Courage and Character Award, presented to one male and one female who overcame adversity and hardship to excel in their sport and in the classroom.
Cross Country's Nohe Lema, men's volleyball's Gonzalo Quiroga, diver Paulina Guzman and track and field's Paisley Pettway recieved the Maggie Gilbert Academic Achievement Award. The award is presented to senior student-athletes who may have struggled academically early on, persevered through a difficult major, or overcame language and cultural differences to be academically successful throughout their years at UCLA while still being able to excel in their sports.
Peszek (gymnastics), Jonathan Bridgeman (men's volleyball) and Zack Torres (track and field/cross country) earned the Bruin Leadership Award, presented to student-athletes who demonstrated leadership on their teams and in the UCLA community.
Quah (swimming and diving) and Perry (track and field) earned the AS2 Success Award, given to one self-sufficient male and female graduating student-athlete who took advantage of all the opportunities and resources available to them at UCLA and will apply them to the successful futures that lie ahead for them.
UCLA student-athletes in the 2014 winter and 2013 fall quarters combined to earn 568 spots on the Director's Honor Roll. In the fall, 100 student-athletes acheived a 3.5 GPA or better, with 19 earning a perfect 4.0. In the winter quarter, 96 had a 3.5 or higher GPA, with 16 earning 4.0s.
