Four UCLA Men's Water Polo Players Earn ACWPC All-Academic Honors

BREA, Calif. - Sophomores Christopher Meinhold, Paul Reynolds and Chris Fahlsing and junior defender Chris Wendt of the UCLA men's water polo team have earned ACWPC All-Academic honors, as announced today by the Association of Collegiate Water Polo Coaches (ACWPC).

Meinhold finished the 2012 campaign with six goals. An attacker from San Clemente, Calif., Meinhold has posted the highest cumulative GPA of any current men's water polo player at 3.529, earning "superior" accolades. He was also named to the MPSF All-Academic Team.

Wendt, a 2012 honorable mention All-American, was fifth on the team in scoring with 34 goals (1.10 gpg). On the year, he drew 22 exclusions and registered 21 field blocks, 19 steals and 16 assists. Wendt earned MPSF All-Academic Team acclaim for the third time in Westwood. A political science major from River Forest, Ill., Wendt had a 3.362 GPA to earn "excellent" honors.

Reynolds, a second team All-American in 2012, finished third on the team in scoring with 44 goals (1.33 gpg), which ranked 22nd in the MPSF. He was also a second team All-MPSF performer in 2012 after being named an honorable mention All-American in 2011. An attacker from Santa Ana, Calif., he had a GPA of 3.328 to also earn "excellent" accolades.

Fahlsing concluded his sophomore season ninth on the squad in scoring with 27 goals and earned MPSF All-Academic Team honors in 2012. An attacker from San Diego, Calif., he posted a 3.349 GPA to earn "excellent" honors this season.

Student-athletes eligible for the ACWPC All-Academic award must have a cumulative grade point average of 3.2 or higher and have competed in at least 50 percent of games in the current season. Athlete merit levels include "excellent" (3.2 to 3.4), "superior" 3.41 to 3.7 and "outstanding" 3.71 to 4.0.

The Bruins finished the 2012 season with a 28-5 overall record and finished as the NCAA Runner-up for the second straight season.
